FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
These are the words so eloquently written by George Orwell from the novel NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR (1984). These are the words used to wrangle the people by the government figurehead BIG BROTHER. 1984 is a clearly negative look at what the FUTURE world COULD look like FROM 1949. Heralded as a classic piece of fiction and in some circles science fiction, this story seems to deliver more true philosophies upon us every day.
Are we now living in dystopian times?
Just like we are experiencing now, with the current state of our government in America, Europe and many other countries worldwide, we see a political structure which is administrated by a privileged Inner Party elite. Whereas we have the figurehead of “hope” as our President in America, in the novel 1984, people are subordinated to the totalitarian cult of personality of Big Brother. HE is the deified Party leader who rules with a philosophy that decries individuality and free thinking as thoughtcrimes. So in turn the people are subordinated to a supposed collective greater good in which the are supposed to be shielded from war, terrorism and the other evils that could befall them if the are not subordinate human automatons.
The war on terror.
The Patriot Act
The rise of surveillance cameras in street corners.
The deterioration of the economy.
The deterioration of the job market.
The deterioration of education in America.
AND NOW…we have what could be the final nail in the coffin of our freedom… Bill S 1867 – Bill Summary & Status, 112th Congress (2011 — 2012) | S.1867 | Latest Title: National Defense Authorization Act for. SECTION 1032 and the now removed SECTION 1031 were the blurred lines of this bill that have everyone concerned.
S.1867 is a bad, bad, bad, thing. It leaves some pretty scary loopholes, that could literally make this article you are reading right now, seem like a terrorist document and therefore I could be imprisoned without trial. Sounds a lot like renowned Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, who was imprisoned months ago in China in the most high-profile target of a sweeping crackdown on activists in China.
On 12/1/2011 this bill was voted on by the Senate and passed in a93-7 vote.
Of the 93 senators who voted “Aye,” 48 are Democrats, 44 are Republicans, 1 is Independent.
Of the 7 senators who voted “Nay,” 3 are Democrats, 3 are Republicans, 1 is Independent.
On Thursday, December 1, it passed and the language of Sections 1031-1032 of Senate bill 1867 (National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012) is up for debate. What does it mean? Regardless of what you think it means, there are clearly loopholes in this document and it’s ethics as to whether or not the authority given by the bill to the President to have the military arrest and detain without charge or trial is over not just “terrorists,” but U.S. citizens.
Does this article make me a terrorist because I am calling out our government? Can I be detained? Arrested and thrown in prison without trial like Ai Weiwei?
Well, amendments that sought to insert language into the bill, limiting the President’s carte blanche authority over U.S. citizens were rejected by the Senate and so S.1867 has lived to see another day.
Clearly what it allows is some sly new detention powers that the Senate has tucked into next year’s defense bill. So no the government will no longer force the military to detain American citizens indefinitely without a trial. In our “Rumsfeldian” future, they just let the military do that. And even though the leaders of the military and the spy community have said they want no such power, the Senate has given it to them as of 12/3/11.
This all kind of sounds a lot like a communist country with a democratic front doesn’t it? Has America become EVIL?
Is S. 1867 – the Final Road to 1984, The Bill To End Your Freedom and Make Science Fiction Fact? I think you have to decide for yourself.
Even Wired Magazine got into the fistfight claiming that our Government wants to lock you up without a trial.
And I’ve become associated with the fight for our freedoms since I began writing a social/politico comic in Gates and I became a loyal friend and supporter of Aaron Russo. I am not a man who sugarcoats my beliefs in freedom and my desire for freedom and compassion and EQUALITY. That is why I write what I write and draw what I draw. If in some circles I would be considered a terrorist for speaking up for my rights and the rights of others who may not even realize that their rights have been slowly taken away from them in recent times, then call me a terrorist and spank my ass.
So America, I think it’s really time to wake up. Look around you and just by the Occupy Wall Street movement you can see that this is clearly what a modern civil war looks like and is looking like. Student loans, education, healthcare and more…it’s all coming to a head.
And political sci-fi like 1984 and V for Vendetta, are now becoming NON FICTION! Does art imitate life or life imitate art? The latter I sometimes prefer would not happen like this.
What’s your take? Are you down with living in a communist state?
Are the one percent eating us alive?
Here is OBAMA discussing the imprisonment of people that has never been attempted by anyone in America, that sidesteps the Constitution. It outlines detaining people without a trial. This is not good. Watch for yourself. President Obama, discusses indefinitely imprisoning people who “might” commit crimes. He discuses developing an appropriate legal regime to indefinitely imprison people without charges.
