THE SOUNDTRACK
In homage to the 1981 Heavy Metal movie, Gates the first online comic from Heavy Metal Magazine will also be featuring a soundtrack to accompany the science fiction/fantasy/horror story. Like the original, this soundtrack will span the genres from hardcore heavy metal to space rock and electronic inspired deliriums. And in dedication to the late, great Ronnie James Dio, all net proceeds from the sale of the audio companion to the comic, will benefit the Ronnie James Dio “Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund.”
Ronnie James Dio appeared on the 1981 soundtrack for the Heavy Metal film while a member of Black Sabbath.
Hal Hefner, the creator of Heavy Metal Presents: Gates worked with artists LoveKrafty and Inside The Black to create all-new music to accompany the comic, and brought in other artists including Deltanaut featuring Nick Menza, Hemoptysis and Black ‘N Blue and other rising stars such as Rusty Eye, Elysion Fields and Friend Slash Lover, to complete the comic’s music companion.
Corey Marshall, most well known as the voice of Ryo, in the game Shenmue also appears on the Soundtrack to Gates.
The complete soundtrack will be available August 9 for digital download on iTunes and AmazonMP3.

Heavy Metal Presents Gates Dedicates The Soundtrack To The Music Of Ronnie James Dio.
Dio, was an amazing entertainer that defined a genre. We honor him for his work on the original Heavy Metal movie and the constant use of fantasy themes on his album covers, videos and more. May his memories, creative spirits and his soul live on forever.
Heavy Metal Presents: Gates has worked with artists to create a new soundtrack for the comic, the first from Heavy Metal in over ten years. Readers of the web comic can stream music produced specifically for the comic while on the site.
The Soundtrack will be released in several volumes and the first Volume he will be released for sale digitally on July 19, 2011. All net proceeds from the sale of the soundtrack will be donated to the Ronnie James Dio “Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund.”
“The Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund continues to work to raise money to fight cancer in Ronnie James Dio’s name and working with Heavy Metal Magazine makes perfect sense,” said Dean Schachtel, General Manager for Niji Entertainment Group.

Discussion (19) ¬
Inside The Black are awesome. Their music will go well with this awesome comic.
Hal, I agree with your selection of groups but you left out Donald Fagen of Steely Dan.
On another note Tues don’t come often enough.
Peace
Hello Hal, don’t know if you know about it, but I believe you may just like.
It’s an tribute album to Ronnie James Dio, also supoorting the Dio – Stand U Shout Cancer Foundation. Here’s the link: http://backstagemetal.com/
cool! thx for sharing man!
Is there any other way to download, aside from AmazonMP3 and iTunes? Currently both albums are inaccesible for me as AmazonMP3 won’t let users from Canada download the album and iTunes will not run natively on linux and as per this moment having a windows install is not feasible. Any feedback would be appreciated and I eagerly anticipate the new comics and other great content released on this site. Thanks.
As of now…I’m sorry that’s it.
